Blade Runner: The Final Cut cinema screenings

So Blade Runner is getting re-released in a very shiny new print and redone director’s cut on DVD (which is great, but you know for those of of us old enough, surely the original cut will always be the finest so thanks for that at last Ridley on DVD) but, even more exciting, it’s going to get released in cinemas - from 23 November.

To say I was atremble with anticipation would be a serious understatement. Here’s a print that’s been taken from the original negative, polished and scanned at an ultra-high resolution. I’m getting my credit card out. I’m ready for my trip to the flicks - and I want BIG. Sod the local multiplexes. I want screens so big you have to go to see the film four times just so you can be sure you’ve been able to focus on all the action. I want the Odeon Leicester Square. No. I want IMAX!

Apparently, though, what I’m getting is the Ritzy in Brixton. According to bladezone.com (the film distributors association website doesn’t even list the film as getting a release, though this week’s new Empire confirms a 23 November date)- these are the cinemas showing the (probable) two week run in the England & Scotland (weep Wales, weep Norn Irn, weep!)…

Ritzy in Brixton

Cameo in Edinburgh

Picturehouse in Cambridge

Picturehouse in Liverpool

Tyneside in Newcastle

No the Brixton Ritzy is a nice enough cinema, but it’s a pain in the arse for me to get there and back.

And it isn’t HUGE.

Still, anyone up for a night sarf of the river?

I am SOOOOO annoyed that this film is not on a decent big screen with modern seatingand sound.

The Ritzy is a cute cinema, but cannot give a showing suitable for this film. Unless u r lucky enough to be in the front 5 rows and centre screen.

At least put it on a big screen in london town guys…..at best (i know i’m dreaming..sigh) IMAX it.

Probably get my Brother in law to screen it round his house on his big screen and Dolby surround etc…..

not quite the same though is it?

    YOurs saddened

I am totally gutted. I heard that this was being re-released and showing at the cinema again.
But I am gutted that it is only showing at a few small cinemas across the UK - none of which I might add are anywhere near where I live.

Surely this is a film that should be on the main cinema’s with the huge big screens and surround systems to blow your mind.

When Star Wars was digitally re-mastered and re-released a number of years ago it was a huge success - again. In my opinion Blade Runner is equally as good and should therefore be given the same treatment.

    Hi,
Just seen BR. The Final Cut at Inverness’s new ‘La Scala’ cinema (The new Eden Court Theatre).
Great to see it on the big screen again. The sound quality is stunning !

I would like to get a BR:TFC poster…any suggestions as to where I may procure one ?

    Dave.

    Hi Dave,

It was definitely worth the effort to see it in the cinema - I still wish there’d been an Imax version.

As for posters - if you’re willing to pay 50-80 quid, http://www.moviemarket.co.uk will sell you a version of the final cut poster but for my money, spend the extra £100 and cliam the exclusivity of owning this original Polish version - here- or spend less money and decorate your walls with a the best poster for a rubbish film ever made (here) - I have always loved that poster.
