But the truth is this is the culmination of four years of Blairites plotting and moaning and destablising the party for the sake of their own bruised egos and - perhaps justified, perhaps not - long-held grudges against Brown and his people. As for the next election? That was lost when the economy tanked - but who is going to deliver us a better result. If we go into the next election with Brown at the helm Labour will be destroyed, and Britain will suffer another decade of disastrous Tory government. Something must be done, and done now, to get him out of Number 10. Purnell did what had to be done. He's a hero! Oh come on!
