New BSFA mailing

So the new BSFA mailing is with members.

There’s an issue of Focus with some, I think, interesting articles.

  • Dev Agarwal’s got an piece on lying to ourselves.
  • Nina Allan strikes a chord with a piece on her love of notebooks.
  • Gillian Rooke warns about infodumping.
  • Jetse deVries encourages new writers to attend conventions.
  • I’ve done a piece on the experience of judging the BSFA 50th Anniversary Short Story competition.
  • And, of course, Chris Priest offers the fourth in his masterclass series, this time on description.

If you’re reading this and you’d like to contribute to a future Focus, please get in touch.

Meanwhile there’s also a packed Vector – which features my first ever attempt at an essay for the magazine, on Scalzi’s Old Man’s War series. I’m not entirely happy with the way the essay turned out, but it was an interesting learning experience…

And while that’s landing on doorsteps, we’ve been hard at work on the next mailing – which is going to be a really huge mailing with (we hope) some exciting content – including the Focus Fiction Special, with the six shortlisted stories from the short story competition. Cool!
